Overview
We live in a time when many areas of life have become more dynamic than we have been accustomed to in many years. This is true of:
- energy security;
- food/water supply security;
- geo-politics;
- the global economy;
to name but a few.
When such volatility exists, we look to politicians to protect us, and pressure is applied on legislators and regulators alike to develop new regimes to address and, hopefully, mitigate our concerns.
Of particular concern in the last year or so is the impact of the global financial crisis and the need to address underlying issues with the way in which the global banking system has evolved. This has resulted in much debate and the likely outcome is far more stringent regulation of banks of all kinds from central to retail.
This places new burdens on all stakeholders whether they have global, regional or national responsibility and reputational risk seems to rise inexorably year on year. No executive in any such organisation wishes to be seen to procrastinate as this could have market impact through down-grading of credit ratings either for their bank or even worse, sovereign debt.
What is required is a regime for addressing legislative, regulatory and audit concerns in a timely, effective and controlled manner that delivers:
- appropriate toolsets which support senior management by tracking all relevant activity, provide transparency to independent observers and real time reporting capabilities to ensure issues are addressed before problems arise;
- experienced, lightweight virtual teams which are able to support the organisation concerned whilst avoiding the traditional consulting model and it's associated bloated cost model;
- real benefits to the stakeholders and avoid a simple 'box-ticking' exercise that usually results in failure downstream, as little consideration is given to the issues in a 'box ticking' exercise.
